“I always had a song in my head. Whether it was the Stevie Wonder or Steely Dan or Beach Boys that I grew up on, or a song of my own, I always needed to find a way to take what was in my mind and get it out into the world.”

Owen grew up in a musical family. The son of a pianist and a brass musician, he took piano lessons in his youth and played trombone throughout high school and college, performing in multiple jazz and classical settings. It was in college at Cornerstone University that Owen fully discovered his love for fusion jazz and R&B, leading him to perform frequently on electric bass, while also arranging songs in different styles for the various ensembles he performed in. He began writing in a variety of genres, including worship, gospel, pop, and R&B. During college Owen also began performing frequently with various groups throughout West Michigan, including the Civic Theater of Grand Rapids, Calvin University Symphony Orchestra, Gold Standard, Hark Up! Horns, Circle Theater at Aquinas College, Calvary Church and others. He also began writing brass charts for many of the groups he was performing in, as well as vocal arrangements for Cornerstone University and Loyola Marymount University.

While studying Music and Audio Production at Cornerstone, Owen also discovered his love for production and recording. He ran sound for a variety of ensembles from worship teams to funk bands to choral ensembles, often also doing post-production work recording and mixing down events. It was in the studio, however, that Owen found a true passion for collaborating with artists to write, record, and release their music to the world. His collaborators include local artists such as Amanda Rohling, Ben Bailey, Lucas Perkins, and Madeleine Alvaro. Combining his unique skillset as a musician, arranger, writer, and mixing engineer, Owen works now as a freelance producer with a desire to see artists grow and flourish as a result of the recording process.
